her bedazzled ankle monitor

only in America

Bonjour,

We’ve been busy! Between BD (Biz Dev)and BS (Bottle Service), we threw some great events last week in Singapore with wonderful partners. A beautiful dinner with NEAR and a brunch that felt like a huge hit with Harpie, with community supporters Leather.io, Alchemy, and Serotonin.

Quick earnest note, I met so many wonderful people from all over the globe this past week who know and love Boys Club. It’s truly an honor do this work, to know you all, and to be a part of this community. Thank you for making Boys Club what it is, it is nothing without you.

ily,

You’re catching me on day 6 of my Singapore fever dream, so apologies in advance for the takes below. All thoughts are my own, are subject to change and are probably wrong, so don’t hold me to it.

An infamous con artist and internet icon reclaimed some real estate on the timeline this week. Anna Delvey scammed New York elites from 2013 to 2017, was subsequently convicted of eight crimes, including attempted grand larceny, and was then sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison. She served 2 years, is out on house arrest and…..

She had a big week with her DWTS debut, as well as a based interview with Ziwe. And I have to tell you, I’m kind of a fan.

As you can imagine, this had me turn INWARD and ask myself why I’m giving myself permission to like the icon that she is.

It could be because I’m coming off a week of witnessing some of the greatest grifters, degens, and shill-ers of our generation at this crypto conference. Or maybe I spend too much time on the internet.

Here’s my take: there is a new archetype of antihero that can only be created and celebrated in the context of our little phones. The permission to like and champion problematic figures is nothing new (remember Donald Trump?), but the creation of camp icons whom we love somewhat ironically happens when their character is formed and molded in the quick moments of looking down at our feeds while waiting for the train.

It’s an immune response to virtue signaling overload.

IMO, Anna feels like a less harmful to society at large than, IDK, the Red Scare girlies, but what do I know? Only that she is not, as it turns out, an incredible dancer.
